DAILY DEVOTION No. 27

                                      THIS IS MY DAILY BREAD

Duet. 6:6-7 6“These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

What word did God speak to you today when you read His Word? It may have been through song, it could have been through prophecy, it could have been by reading the Word of God, or it could have been through encouragement of other brothers and sisters in Christ. God grows a little bigger in our eyes and our hearts every time we read His Word. Our faith grows stronger. Faith comes from hearing and hearing by the Word of God. When we stand upon His Word our circumstances don’t seem as difficult.

Lets look at Jeremiah. Jeremiah knew God’s Word… he knew that towards Israel, God had presented a history of promises and had showed faithfulness in keeping them. Deut 30:19 says "I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants." God’s blessing is conditional, disobedience will bring a curse.

God had spoken personally to Jeremiah in Jeremiah 1:5-9  “Before I formed you in the womb I

knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

6“Ah, Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am only a child.” 7But the

LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a child.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and

say whatever I command you. 8Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue

you,” declares the LORD. God’s Word had become life to Jeremiah, his daily bread. Jeremiah was to prophecy to Israel what was to come. He was to bring a message of judgment because of sin

God’s Word to Jeremiah was real, he believed it, even at a time when he was in an impossible situation. For instance, in Jeremiah 32:14-26 God told Jeremiah that he was to purchase a field - a piece of land that was worthless because of the Babylonian invasion. Notice God said to him in Verse 26 - "I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?

Jeremiah found himself in the midst of God’s wrath being poured out on Israel. They were no longer a blessed people, but responsible for there own circumstance. What about God’s promise to be with him & protect him (Jer 1:5-9 & 30:10-14  - to give him a future and a hope). Are you remembering God’s promises to you, when your circumstances seem impossible? God led Jeremiah through all of Israel’s punishment. What did God do for Jeremiah in the midst of all this? Let’s have a look at Nebuchadnezzar’s words to Jeremiah in Jeremiah 39:12 - “Take him and look after him; don’t harm him but do for him whatever he asks.” Then God's promise came to him in verse 18 - ‘I will save you; you will not fall by the sword but will escape with your life, because you trust in me, declares the LORD.’ God kept speaking to Jeremiah, because he was always listening.

God has blessings for those who love him that cannot be imagined. He uses circumstances to test our hearts Eg. Jer. 20: 12 O LORD Almighty, you who examine the righteous and probe the heart and mind,… Do you feel like you are drowning in your circumstances? What about His Word to your life, has it changed? Our daily bread is God’s word spoken to our life. It can come in different ways - through Scripture, a friend, a sermon or a word of prophecy.

Challenge

Let God’s Word become your daily bread. Digest it as often as we eat food and let it become nourishment and strength to our hearts.

Prayer

Father, let your Word live in me. Let me pass on what you teach me through your Word.
