PROUD HEART 2 Chronicles 26:3-21
A proud person doesn’t want to admit: a) there is a need for change, or; b) they have a problem with pride. Notice in the above passage that
while King Uzziah sought the Lord, God helped him and caused him to
prosper. His downfall is seen in verse 16 – “But when he was
strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he
transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the
LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.” Here
is a checklist for people with a pride problem: i)
They have an opinion about everything ii)
They are judgemental iii)
They cannot be corrected iv)
They rebel against authority v)
They take the glory and credit to themselves
Many leaders can have a spirit of pride to contend with. We must have enough humility to know we are not right about everything and then take correction. There is no room for pride in the Kingdom of God. The Lord wants us to walk humbly before Him, especially if we are to do anything significant for Him.
The pride that God hated to see in Lucifer is the very thing He hates in us – Isaiah 14:12-15.
Listen what the Scriptures say about pride:
Prov. 13:10 (a) - “By pride comes nothing but
strife……” Prov. 16:18 – “Pride goes before destruction and a
haughty spirit before a fall” Ps. 101:5 – “He who has a proud heart, God will not
tolerate.” Pr 8:13 - “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.” Micah 6:8 - He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. Prayer
